What Is the Chat?
Learn how Chat differs from Search and when to use it.
The Chat is a feature in Respeak that lets you have open-ended conversations with your experts. Unlike Search, the Chat remembers the entire conversation - your questions and answers build on each other, just like a real dialogue.
The Difference Between Chat and Search
Respeak gives you two ways to get answers from your knowledge: Search and Chat. Both access the same knowledge but work differently.
Search: You ask a single question and receive an answer with source references. Each question stands on its own. This works best when you need to look up a specific piece of information quickly.
Chat: You have a connected conversation. The Chat knows all previous questions and answers in the dialogue. This lets you ask follow-up questions, explore a topic step by step, or ask the Chat to rephrase or summarize a previous answer.
When Should You Use the Chat?
The Chat is the right choice when you want to explore a topic in depth and ask follow-up questions, have several related questions about the same topic, want to ask the expert to summarize, simplify, or reword an answer, or need to work through a more complex subject step by step.
When Is Search a Better Fit?
Use Search when you need a quick answer to a single question, are looking for one specific piece of information, or want direct source references and citations.
Getting to the Chat
Click Chat in the navigation. The chat area opens and you will see the input field where you can type your first question.
